As far as pottery ding (an ancient cooking vessel) is concerned, in the early period of Liang Zhu Culture, the ding was made in the shape fish fins and in the late period, typical of the ding was made in the shape of “T”. A cooking vessel used by people at that time, ding is made of high temperature resisting sand-and-clay pottery. The transect of this ding is in the shape of “T”, so that this article may be strong and also mud may be saved. Some believe that such a shape is designed to hold fire.
