In April 1993, two big tombs of the Liang Zhu Culture were unearthed in Hengshan, Xingqiao Town. Especially in the well-preserved Tomb No.2, 132 stone axes were found. This is the tomb with the largest number of buried stone battle-axes up till now, a phenomenon that deserves deep consideration.
Stone axes derived from stone axes, which are commonly seen in the relics of the Liang Zhu Culture. It’s widely believed among the scholars that both stone battle-axes and jade battle-axes are symbols of weaponry and they are also ceremonial instruments used by nobles in celebrations or gatherings to show their power.
